Shuffle Up and Deal... for the Cornwall Youth Centre

The Rotary Club of Cornwall is holding a Texas Hold�Em Charity Poker Tournament at the Ramada Inn on Friday October 20, 2006, with play starting at 6:00 pm sharp. All proceeds will go to the Cornwall Youth Centre Foundation.

This is a friendly tournament for charity � players of all skill levels are welcome to sit in. There is, however, a maximum number of seats � so hurry up and get your ticket!

�We wanted to do something fun to raise money to benefit the youth in our community�, said tournament organizer and Rotarian Theresa Taylor.

Although there are no cash prizes, players at the final table will win prizes donated by sponsors, in addition to this, every time a player knocks out another player, they can earn a bounty chip! A bounty chip gets the player�s name in a draw for several door prizes. The more bounty chips you win the more chances you have of winning a prize!

The tournament is supported by several sponsors, including the Scotiabank which is matching funds raised by the tournament.

Tickets are $50 each or you can buy a whole table (8 tickets) and have the entire office play! Tickets are available at Scotiabank or Ramada Inn. Players are asked to be at the Ramada Inn by 5:30 in order to register and be assigned chips and a chair.

Cornwall Youth Centre
The Cornwall Youth Centre offers youth a place of gathering where they can grow in a respectful, secure, and unprejudiced environment under the supervision of qualified adults.

�The Cornwall Youth Centre provides opportunities for invaluable linkages between the Cornwall Community Police Service and the youth of Cornwall�, said Daniel C. Parkinson, Cornwall�s Chief of Police. �Front line patrol officers are encouraged to drop into the centre to interact informally with the youth who are serviced by the centre, thus allowing for opportunities for positive role modeling and a demystification of the role of the police in the community. An investment of time or money towards sustaining an accessible youth centre in Cornwall is a sound investment in the future of Cornwall.�

�As Chief of Police, I am delighted with the support that the Rotary Club of Cornwall has directed toward the expansion of the Youth Centre project in our City�, Chief Parkinson added. �Their commitment of time, effort and financial support could not be timelier. By expanding the efforts of the existing Youth Centre into the east end of the City, far more youth will be able to access vital recreational and leisure activities that will assist in ensuring the maturity through the difficult years of adolescence and teenagehood.�

The Rotary Club of Cornwall meets at the Ramada Inn weekly at noon on Mondays. Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.
