The award-winning auctioneer has a collection of 45 brand new Gibbard furniture pieces in mint condition and all will be up for auction next weekend. Pieces range from exquisite end tables to large entertainment units to dining room tables.
The auction will take place on Saturday November 25 at 9 am at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Purcell Road on the outskirts of Cornwall.
We are really excited when we get items that are unique, as it makes for a once in a lifetime sale said Theresa Taylor. Some of the Gibbard pieces retail for thousands of dollars and will be up for bid with no reserve. People are going to walk away with incredible deals!
Gibbard has been known for its fine craftsmanship since it was founded on the banks of the Napanee River by English cabinet maker John Gibbard in 1835. It is now the oldest furniture manufacturer in Canada, and certainly one of the most prestigious names in quality hardwood furniture in the world.
Gibbards specialty is solid cherry or solid mahogany pieces with classic and timeless styling. Each piece of furniture is hand rubbed and hand finished to a satin smooth finish.
Their furniture is truly a display of impeccable taste and quality.
An added bonus of Gibbard furniture is that it is still being made in Canada, and therefore you can always purchase more to complete a set, added Theresa Taylor. Gibbard is highly collected, and we expect to have a lot of new bidders from Ottawa, Montreal and beyond!
The Gibbard furniture items represent the balance of stock from Bedford Interiors, a well known furniture store in the Montreal area for sixty years. Facing increasingly stiff competition from chain retailers offering low-priced imports, the owners decided to close shop and move the business in a completely new direction. Today, the former Bedford Interiors showroom hosts over 50 reputable antique dealers selling quality antiques and collectables.
Previews of the items up for auction can be viewed on Theresa Taylors website, www.theresataylor.com, where absentee bids can also be left. In addition to the Gibbard furniture, the auction will feature hundreds of antiques and collectibles. Prospective bidders can also preview the items in person from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Friday November 24, and before the auction the next day. Tea will be served at the preview for a donation to the Rotary Club of Cornwall.
