It was nice to listen to Theresa Taylor recount her experiences at the Royal Winter Fair last week. Memories of our many visits to the Royal came flooding back. Theresa says that 10,000 children registered at the fair on the Wednesday that she made her presentation, many who were seeing farm animals for the first time. The butter sculptures were most impressive. Her audience seemed to really enjoy the history of auctions, the demonstration and most of all the chance to be an auctioneer. "five, five, now 10, 10, do I have 15, 15? Muttered on gentleman to himself after the show a 'want to be' auctioneer.
Canada AM picked up Friday's presentation. You may have seen it.
As for Theresa, it's on to other things. One of those things is the preparation for the next Snowsuit Fundraiser at the Parkway in Cornwall. This is the sole fundraiser for this important charity. It's on Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come at 5:30 to \view items, mostly donated by local businesses, that are to be auctioned. There will be refreshments and a cash bar.
Theresa tells me that many suits, mitts, hats and boots are distributed annually to approximately 850 families in all areas of SDG. All office space is provided, all work done is by volunteers and the only expense is for the telephone. So all proceeds go directly for the snowsuits and outerwear. As for the volunteers at the centre of distribution, "They are a small but mighty group." Says Theresa.
Any donations of good used winter wear would always be appreciated. For more information, or for tickets to the auction at the Parkway, call chair Stuart Gordon at 932-8714.
