Theresa Taylor named AAO Member of the Year

Despite white-outs and snow squalls, over 100 auctioneers and other interested individuals turned up in Kingston on the Valentine's Day weekend to take part in the Auctioneers Association of Ontario (A.A.O.) annual convention.
During the convention, A.A.O. President Manson Slik, announced the winners of the newly created Member of the Year Award.
And the winners were: Alec Jeffrey of Pickering, Ontario and Theresa Taylor of South Lancaster, Ontario. Alec, a quiet gentleman, contributed hundreds of hours of work to the A.A.O., creating standard operating procedures and assisting the organization in building public awareness. Theresa, a perky and vocal red-head, promoted the A.A.O. wherever and whenever she found the opportunity. She also assisted mightily in providing good content for the Association's newsletter, "The Ontario Auctioneer".
"I owe my success to the A.A.O.," Theresa stated in her forthright way. "If it hadn't been for the Association and the information and leads I got by being a member, I probably wouldn't be in business today."
Mr. Slick described the criteria by which the recipient of the Member of the Year Award was chosen. The person had to be an A.A.O. member who had made an outstanding contribution to the Association, or to the auction industry in general, and who offered unstinting support to the A.A.O..
The A.A.O. was born in 1984, the brainchild of a handful of auctioneers who wanted to create an ethical organization to guide auctioneers in running their businesses. Despite still being pretty much a youngster, the Association is now a powerful force in the auction industry.
Alec and Theresa were both quick to don the red jackets they received in recognition of their new status and, particularly, to show off the A.A.O. logo and inscription emblazoned across the back of the jacket: Member of the Year 2003.
