Local auctioneer Theresa Taylor came away with some hardware following an intensive week at the Auctioneers Association of Canada Annual Convention in Pointe Claire, Quebec. The event attracted auctioneers from across Canada and the United States.

Theresa competed in the All Round World Championship Competition on Saturday October 30, 2004. The winner of the competition is entitled to the twin titles of World Champion and Canadian Champion. After an intense opening round, Theresa was invited to participate in the final round, along with one other lady. This would mark the first time in the history of the event that two females had advanced to the final round.

When the dust settled, Theresa was crowned Ladies Champion.

Jonathan Radcliff from Alberta was named the new All Round World Champion & Canadian Champion; Gilles Dupere from Ontario was named the runner-up.

I was very happy to be named Ladies Champion, and somewhat overwhelmed to advance to the final round, said Theresa. It was quite an honour to bid against some of my mentors and heroes.

The event was made even more special as Theresas mother, H. Theresa Taylor, was in the audience.

The level of competition was very high, including at least one past world champion, said Gary Peterson, president of the Auctioneers Association of Canada. The title carries more than prestige, it is an acknowledgement of an auctioneers skill. Congratulations go out to all competitors, but it was especially nice to see Theresa do so well.

The All Round World Championship Competition is a real live auction; where auctioneers are judged on presentation, voice expression and salesmanship. This year the event raised funds for the CJAD Kids' Fund, which supports two Children's Hospitals in the Montreal, as well as the Street Kids and Welcome Home programs.

Theresa Becomes Certified Canadian Auctioneer
Earlier in the week, Theresa also completed her Institute of Certified Canadian Auctioneers (ICCA) training. She is now certified to use the designation of ICCA, joining an elite club whose membership counts only 74 auctioneers across Canada.

Auctioneers Association of Canada
The Auctioneers Association of Canada (AAC) promotes the auction method of marketing as a way of bringing sellers and purchasers together. The AAC has established formal training, along with a code of ethics, to govern professionalism in the auction industry in Canada. The AAC also publishes the Canadian Auctioneer magazine.
