Over the past several years, Theresa Taylor's life has been repeatedly touched by breast cancer. "My grandmother, my maternal uncle, my sister, my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law were all diagnosed with breast cancer," said Taylor.
"Some of them have since passed away, and some are now breast cancer survivors, but it's always been something of which I've been very aware."
And now the local entrepreneur has decided to lend her skills to the fight to find a cure for disease, which will take the lives of thousands of Canadians this year.
"October is Breast Cancer Awareness month," said Taylor. "At an auction I'm hosting on (Saturday), there will be a number of pink table items."
Over the past several weeks, Taylor has been receiving dozens of pieces for the table from people in the area who want to do their part for breast cancer research.
Those items will be up for auction, will all proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
"We have Pink Ladies postcards, a pink angel vintage shoe buckles, and a pink ribbon brooch donated by Gordon Jewellers," said Taylor. "Of course, there are also many other items which are up for grabs, but not necessarily pink, including a bath gift basket, vintage costumes, decoys, advertising pieces and reference books."
Also up for auction will be four-dozen custom-designed ball caps featuring a pink ribbon, the symbol for breast cancer awareness.
"People will only be able to get these hats at the auction," said Taylor. "They won't be able to find them for sale anywhere else."
The auction will be starting at 10 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Glen Walter.
