Here are some guidelines and some preliminary advice for any auction. Let’s start with three simple questions, I the auctioneer want to know: what are you selling, who would want it and how to you reach the appropriate audience.
Successful auctions just don’t happen as originally planned. Many of the auctioneer’s duties don’t ever change regardless of the type of event chosen: preparation of catalogues of the inventory complete with photos, lists on the online venue, marketing, advertising the product. Responding to condition reports, emailing and responding to all inquiries. The only element missing in a tag sale or online auction is the live bid calling. It is apparent that auctioneers are much more than just bid callers.
